David started his insurance career in 1974 at John Townsend and Company Ltd, placing marine, direct and reinsurance business and was appointed a Director in 1980. In 1985 he joined the Tung Group in Hong Kong as Managing Director of Furness Houlder Reinsurance Services Ltd and a Director of Furness Houlder Insurance Ltd. Following the sale of the financial services element of the Group to China Merchants Group, David purchased the Furness subsidiary, Wackerbarth Hardman Insurance Brokers. As Managing Director, David developed the business until the company was sold to the Minet Group in 1994. From 1996 until 1999 he was a Director of R K Carvill and Co. Ltd developing a marine reinsurance account, joining Benfield Greig Ltd in 2000, until October 2003 when he joined R K Harrison. He was appointed to the Board in March 2004.
